Description

The source of lemon grass common throughout the Caribbean and the West Indies the oil is often used to flavor teas, ice cream, candy, pastries and desserts. Easy to grow and will produce a good crop of leaves to make tea, add to potpourri or add to any dish for a fresh lemon flavor. This is the variety of choice for those of you in colder climates where this variety may survive a milder winter outdoors and do well overwintered in a greenhouse. Much hardier than its East Indian cousin. Lemongrass prefers well-drained, moist, rich loam soil with high organic content. It will tolerate poor soils if provided adequate moisture and good drainage. Water logged soils should be avoided. Full sun. Tender Perennial.  Grows well in a pot and can be moved into a sunny window for the winter. Hardy to zone 9-10.
