Peruvian Ground Cherry, Inca Berry, Cape Gooseberry
One of the many traditional medicinal foods long enjoyed by indigenous people of the Andes now being rediscovered as a super-food. The small bright yellow/orange fruits are both tangy and sweet like a tomato combined with Pineapple. The fruit is very high in Vitamin C, Vitamin A and B complex. Medicinally, there are historical uses of Goldenberry for diabetes, heart issues, digestion, immune response, as an anti-inflammatory and to improve eyesight! Goldenberry is common throughout South America where it is often found in the markets. The ripe little fruits are very tasty and make a great juice or sometimes are dried like raisins. This tropical perennial enjoys full sun conditions similar to a pepper or tomato. Hardiness Zone 8-10.
