Description
Phytolacca acinosa, Himalyan Pokeberry
Originally native to Tibet, Northern Asia and China, this beautiful version of Poke has very long lush leaves and vibrant drooping white flowers that mature into long clusters of shiny dark berries! Very showy in the garden and not invasive like it’s cousin the American Poke can be. The young shoots of this plant are savored as a tasty green in India. The root is used medicinally in traditional Tibetan and Chinese medicine and in Ayurveda as well. It can be found growing high in the Himalayas and is quite rare to find as a potted plant! Very easy to grow once established somewhat drought tolerant but will do best with regular watering and a fertile soil. Enjoys a sunny or part sun location. Hardy perennial. Hardy to Zone 6.
